About AEO for Lawyers

A sourced, plain-language guide to getting a law firm found and cited in AI-powered search, with the sponsors, the method and the limits stated up front.

What this site is

AI search tools such as Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Claude and Microsoft Copilot now answer many questions directly, and some of those answers name or link to law firms. This site explains how that works and what a firm can do about it. We call the work answer engine optimization, or AEO.

The articles cover four areas: how AI search works, what to publish, what to fix on the site, and how to measure results. Start with the resources if you want a working list.

Who pays for this site

AEO for Lawyers is published by Agency 310 and sponsored by Agency 310 and GrowthAgents AI. GrowthAgents AI sells AI marketing to law firms, including work on AI search visibility, and Agency 310 sells AI consulting and automation, including for law practices. That is a commercial interest, so weigh our writing with it in mind.

Every call to action that points to a sponsor is labeled "From our sponsors" and names the company. We do not place sponsor links inside the body text of an article as if they were neutral references.

We write each article to be useful if you never hire either company, which includes saying plainly that no one can guarantee an AI tool will name your firm. If you want to talk to a sponsor, you can schedule a call with Agency 310 or run the free GrowthAgents AI scan.

How articles are written and checked

  • Primary sources first. Claims about how a product works come from the company's own documentation. Claims about advertising ethics come from the ABA Model Rules and the opinions linked in each article. Every article lists its sources at the bottom.
  • Studies are named and sized. When we cite research we say who ran it, when, and how large it was. Vendor studies are labeled as vendor studies, and where studies disagree we say so instead of picking a number.
  • Inference is marked as inference. Where the documentation is silent, we say it is silent and label our own reasoning as advice rather than fact.
  • AI-assisted drafting, source-checked. Articles are drafted with AI assistance and then checked against the linked sources. They are not reviewed by a licensed attorney unless an article says so.
  • Dates. The updated date on each article is the last time we checked it against its sources. These products change quickly, so check the primary source before you act on a detail.

What we do not claim

  • We do not claim any technique guarantees a mention, a citation or a ranking in an AI answer. Google says there are no extra technical requirements for its AI features beyond being indexed and eligible to show a snippet, and OpenAI says placement in ChatGPT search is not guaranteed.
  • We do not give legal advice. Lawyer advertising rules differ by state, so check your state bar's rules before you publish claims about your firm.
  • We do not sell rankings, citations or placement in these articles.

Corrections

If you find an error or a source that has changed, tell us through the Agency 310 contact page and mention the article title. We correct errors on the page and update the date.
